Africa Decarbonization Cluster (ADC) in collaboration with GIZ, the International University of Rabat (UIR), the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and the International PtX Hub of Germany are organizing the 1st edition of the "Regional Capacity Building on Green Hydrogen" Forum
from November 12 to 14, 2024 at the International University of Rabat.
Africa Decarbonization Cluster (ADC)
Empowering Sustainable Business Solutions
Digital Transformation to Sustainability
Decarbonizing by leveraging digital tools to monitor, analyze, and optimize energy use across sectors. Integrating IoT, artificial intelligence, and data analytics supports resource efficiency, predictive maintenance, and reduces emissions through smarter, data-driven decision-making processes.
Industrial Sector
Decarbonizing by reducing emissions through energy-efficient machinery, waste heat recovery, and integrating green hydrogen. Additionally, exploring renewable energy sources and carbon capture methods can be effective.
Power Sector
Decarbonizing by accelerating the shift to renewable energy sources, green hydrogen and its derivatives. Grid optimization and energy storage solutions can also improve efficiency and reliability in the power sector.
Transportation Sector
Decarbonizing by promoting electric vehicle infrastructure, fuel efficiency, and cleaner public transportation options. Developing urban mobility solutions and encouraging active transport, like biking and walking, further reduce emissions.
Residential Sector
Decarbonizing by supporting energy-efficient building designs, appliances, and retrofitting. Solar panels and community microgrids can also play a significant role in residential decarbonization.
Agriculture Sector
Decarbonizing by implementing sustainable farming practices, carbon sequestration in soil, and reducing methane emissions. Precision agriculture and regenerative practices are also key in cutting down greenhouse gas emissions.
the African Decarbonization Cluster is tackling such a broad range of sectors. Each of these areas has unique challenges and opportunities for decarbonization:
Carbon Sequestration
Direct Air Capture (DAC)
Sequestration from Air
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
Sequestration from Industries
Our Mission
The Africa Decarbonization Cluster (ADC) is committed to accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy across Africa. Our mission is to support innovative, low-carbon projects, promote sustainable technologies, and foster partnerships that drive economic and environmental progress. By empowering local innovators and supporting project development, we aim to achieve net-zero emissions across the continent.
Our Vision
We envision an Africa that leads the way in decarbonization by leveraging its rich renewable energy resources, advancing green technology, and building resilient, sustainable communities. Through collaboration, research, and targeted investment, ADC seeks to create a thriving ecosystem for green growth, reducing Africa's carbon footprint and enhancing energy access and efficiency.
Our Approach
ADC’s approach is multifaceted, addressing the key areas necessary for a green transition:
Project Development & Support: Assisting in the creation and funding of low-carbon projects and supporting entrepreneurs, startups, and companies that contribute to net-zero goals.
Innovation and R&D: Promoting research and the development of cutting-edge technologies, including solar photovoltaics, wind power, bioenergy, smart grids, energy storage, and electric mobility.
Capacity Building: Providing training, awareness programs, and knowledge sharing to foster low-carbon technology adoption and implementation.
Monitoring & Technological Advancements: Conducting carbon footprint assessments in cities and industrial areas and tracking technological and regulatory advancements.
Governance and Structure
Our governance framework includes:
Strategic and Scientific Committees: Providing strategic direction and scientific oversight.
Executive Board: Managing operations and executing decisions.
Regional and International Representatives: Coordinators across Africa and international regions (Europe, Americas, Asia, and MENA) to facilitate global collaboration.
Our Network and Partners
The ADC Network (ADCN) is a vibrant community of experts in education, R&D, and green innovation, focused on Africa's green transition, digital transformation, and sustainable development. Our members include over 20 organizations, such as SMART CONCEPT SOLUTION, EMICARB, and VERO INNOREM, all committed to advancing Africa's decarbonization goals. Together, we work to reduce Africa’s carbon footprint, facilitate joint projects, and share valuable scientific and technical insights.
Through our efforts, ADC is building a greener, more sustainable future for Africa and the world.
Our Objectives
ADC has set clear objectives to guide our work and create impactful change:
Carbon Market Growth: Stimulating the carbon market in Africa with initiatives that support carbon footprint reduction.
Financial Support for Innovation: Launching calls for project funding, offering student grants, and supporting innovative industrial ecosystems.
Regional and International Cooperation: Establishing networks of experts and researchers to promote knowledge exchange and partnerships.
Knowledge Sharing and Publications: Conducting studies, sharing research findings, and promoting collaboration within the scientific, industrial, and socio-economic communities.
